The Anambra State Police Command has intensified its campaign against cultism, violent crimes and other social vices, unveiling plans to embark on a statewide youth engagement programme under the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV).
The Command disclosed this following a stakeholders’ interactive radio programme held on July 8, 2026, which brought together traditional rulers, youth leaders, community representatives and members of the public to discuss strategies for tackling crime and promoting positive values among young people.
Speaking on the initiative, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the programme served as a platform to sensitise residents on the dangers of cultism, substance abuse, cybercrime and other criminal activities, while stressing the need for collective efforts in crime prevention.
He said participants and callers highlighted practical measures to strengthen community partnerships, mentor young people and encourage lawful and productive lifestyles.
According to him, the Command will, in the coming weeks, commence a series of youth-focused engagements across the state to deepen public awareness, discourage criminal tendencies and promote peace, discipline and responsible citizenship.
Ikenga further disclosed that the Command was making arrangements to receive the National Coordinator of POCACOV from the Force Headquarters, Abuja, before the end of July.
He explained that the visit would formally kick-start an extensive programme of youth engagements across Anambra State, including activities during the August long vacation, advocacy sessions with students, interactions with women during their August meetings and other community-based initiatives aimed at preventing crime.
The police spokesman appealed to parents, teachers, traditional and religious leaders, youth organisations and other stakeholders to support the POCACOV initiative by encouraging young people to reject cultism and other social vices and embrace responsible behaviour.
He noted that the success of the campaign would depend on sustained collaboration between the police and communities in building a safer and more secure Anambra State.
